3 June 2011 Tourism Queensland will deliver a range of fully subsidised workshops for tourism operators on the Gold Coast as they continue the recovery process, Tourism Minister Jan Jarratt said today. Ms Jarratt said the Tourism Capacity Program would provide tourism operators with a range of skills to develop and implement strategies to recover and grow their businesses. “The program has been developed by Tourism Queensland and Tourism Australia, with the support of Gold Coast Tourism, and is jointly funded by the Federal and State Government’s $12 million global tourism recovery strategy,” Ms Jarratt said. “There is no doubt the floods and cyclones that hit Queensland earlier this year impacted on the tourism industry, either directly or through perception.” Member for Broadwater Peta-Kaye Croft encouraged tourism operators to sign up for the program. “The Tourism Capacity Program aims to support individual tourism operators by providing them with tools they can use to grow their businesses, so all tourism operators will find these workshops invaluable,” Ms Croft said. “Gold Coast Tourism was instrumental in coordinating the Gold Coast workshops by working with operators to tailor sessions to meet local needs and also to help promote the sessions. “The Gold Coast sessions will cover a range of topics such as weatherproofing your business, tourism marketing, China-ready workshops, how to write a media release, crisis communication, domestic and international-ready workshops and profitable online marketing. “I encourage Gold Coast tourism operators to attend.” For workshop information and registration, contact Maria McDougall on 07 3535 5255 or go to www.tq.com.au/tourismcapacityprogram Dates and sessions are: Gold Coast - How to write a media release - Tuesday 7 June Gold Coast - Crisis communication - Tuesday 7 June Gold Coast - Profitable online marketing - Wednesday 15 June Gold Coast - How to host a famil - Thursday 23 June
